Fantasy Novel

Notes aka - "Great Detective Conan"
Dates: January 8, 1996-
Number of episodes: 200+
Production Company: Tokyo Movie Shinsha
Classification -
Synopsis About a detective who by the action of his enemies and a dangerous poison, is shrunk into a boy of about twelve while retaining his adult detection powers. His name "Conan Edogawa" contains the names of two famous detective story writers, one English, one Japanese. (Some of Edogawa Rampo's stories have been animated in the "Animated Classics of Japanese Literature" series.) The episodes feature detective puzzles rather than violent action.
In a typical episode he solves the mystery by intellect after overcoming the reluctance of the adults to take any notice of him. (G. Cowie

"MC" is about Edogawa Conan, a little boy who is interested in detective work for a good reason - he is really 19 year old Kudo Shinichi, a brilliant ( and somewhat conceited ) amateur detective who, while investigating a crime, was injected with an experimental poison that "un-aged" him into a little boy. Conan lives incognito with his former classmate Ran ( who considered Shinichi to be her boyfriend ) and Ran's father Mori, a hard drinking, loud mouthed and usually unsuccessful private detective.

Review Quite watchable, especially if you like detective stories, I suppose.Interior scene

"Meitantei Conan". A very popular prime time mystery anime in Japan - it has been running on Monday nights at 7:30 since early 1996. I started watching it with my friend's first tape in the Fall of 1996. I enjoy the show so much that I bought the Japanese laser discs to catch up on the first 73 episodes that I missed. The show is a wonderfully entertaining mix of classic detective/mystery stories, human drama and subtle humor. Rating - A+
I watched the third part of the most recent mini-arc on "Meitantei Conan", in which I assumed that Hayashibara Megumi's character Haibara Ai would finally be done in by Conan's arch-nemesis, Jin, but it wasn't to be. The first part of this story line had Haibara having recurring nightmares about running into Jin and getting killed by him. ( That's why she took the age-reversal drug in the first place, to get away from him. ) Haibara's character has been having very few appearances in the last couple of months worth of episodes of MC and those have been quite minor at that. Her character is not very "sympathetic" and I certainly wouldn't mind if she were knocked off, but she survived this final part of the story, despite temporarily turning back to an adult and being shot up a bit by Jin. Now Jin knows for certain that "Sheila", Haibara's adult self, is still around, but not that she is Haibara. Also, a new mystery "bad guy" has shown up and Conan is not aware of her existence. Once more, Conan's writers are keeping up the mystery and the fun of the series.

200 plus episodes and still going strong, this detective show continues to draw in the fans in droves with its witty plots and great characterizations
