Synopsis
Review Amazingly enough this was the continuation series of one of the longest running anime TV, Tatsunoko Productions' comedy anime, the 8th season of the Time Bokan series.
The first season of Time Bokan appeared in 1975, so this series has become the 25th anniversary. And to my great pleasure, the original staff/casts are still in active, except for Tomiyama Kei's 'Sasayaki reporter'. Director was Sasagawa Hiroshi, script writer was Koyama Takao, mecha design was Ogawara Kunio, music was of course Yamamoto Masayuki and he composed and sang for the theme song as well. Three Villians are also active. Nothing has changed from the original. Yanami Jyoji, Tatekabe Kazuya and Ohara Noriko were unchanged from the 1st season. This is a kind of miracle in the anime industry which changes at light speed.
This was merely a 'B' show, but really great B anime.
Recommended for the die-hard anime fans. Rating B+.

"Kaitou Kirameki Man". No, this isn't a repeat of the old series that ran from the mid-70's until the early 80's, but a very faithful resurrection of the show. The character designs, plots and even the voice actors are the same as in the original series. This makes for a real case of disorientation since the animation style is almost impeccably done in the manner of 20 years ago. But there are updated details in the show - for instance the cops are aghast to find out that Kirameki Man has the chutzpah to have his own web page! The show is a comedy, but much of the comedy doesn't really work for me, nor can I really get interested in the two main characters who should have been satirized instead of done straight. ( I'm pretty sure that I saw the main characters appear as "eye candy" in some of the Urusei Yatsura TV episodes. ) If "Kirameki Man" was more about the bumbling cops and less about the goodie-goodie heroes I might want to watch it. But as is, I will leave the show to those folks who are carrying fond memories from when the series originally came out.
