Synopsis | Serious space battle anime drama. |
Review | ... nor was there any humor in the first episode of SnoS. At least the beginning of the first episode of the new series had a fairly intense space battle, but then we switched over to a space ship that Rafiru was commanding, in which Jinto was one of the crew. This brought up another point about the new series which first came out in the prelude. The creators of the show are obviously attempting to create some sort of "mystique" and popularity around Rafiru. But the problem is her character design - she has the face of the man in the painting "The Scream", except with pointy ears that jut out. ( As an aside, am I ever getting sick of girls with long pointy ears in anime! I always wonder how they don't break them when the sleep at night. ) In the ending credits for SnoS, Rafiru's character design is very different - she has a round face and much more subtle ears. (Dave Baranyi)
This was the sequel of Seikai no Monsho, which was a hardcore SF fantasy
in the different universe. I didn' t follow much about the original series, 'monsho',
but according to what I watched the 'special' preview program, it seems quite
interesting and fun. Character design also very beautiful, though there seemed
no such big action or 'service shot'. This seemes to be good for someone who
had become a bit bored with the recent 'beautiful female alien/android appears
and will become your friend' type of story, and is looking for some serious SF.
Rating B+.
After 1 episode - looks like an intriguing hard-SF anime, without added humour and set in some sort of galactic empire scenario. Rafiru looks a bit odd but I thought the character designs were okay. |
