Synopsis "Steel Angel Kurumi" is what I call a "fembot" show in which a super powerful female android attaches herself to an innocent boy. In this case, the show is set in the early 1920's in Japan in an alternate world of steam mechas and female Japanese Army scientist/officers.

Review "Steel Angel Kurumi" continues to set a new "benchmark" for "cute per minute". However, I did get a surprise in the latest episode. The writers avoided the "temptation" to turn "SAK" into just another "Tenchi" type show ( you know - all the girls like the one kid )by having Kurumi wake her sister Saki with a kiss. Now "Hakusei" has been kidnapped and as I expected, the lady scientist is joining forces with the "good guys".

There are a lot of "head in the boobs" sorts of jokes and a lot of bare android boobs and human female panty shots that get a bit "tired" after too many repetitions. Rating after 3 episodes - C-

Until now, Koutetsu Senshi Kurumi has become quite successful so far. Major success of this series definately came from the excellent stuff of OLM, who once succeeded 'To Heart' and 'Berserk', a story of a worrior who bears the huge sword in his back and smashes the villian, in a very violent, 'Fist of the North Star' like world... Namely, Senba Yuriko's cute character design and their cute costumes were quite effective. Being a character show like this, character development was the key for the success. Of course the combination of good voice actress, Enomoto Atsuko, Tanaka Rie and Kurata Masayo are very important. Another joy of this series was about the Taisho world setting, which started from Tokyo or Ginza, then went to Shizuoka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Izumo, as if touring around Japan at that time. The setting looked realistic than you will imagine from rather a stupid story setting. For example, in the later episode, Nakahito, Kurumi and Saki went to an amusement park, which was actually exsisted here in Osaka called 'Lunar Park'. There was an international exposition here then, and the Lunar Park was the first amusement park in Japan. There was a tower called 'Tsuutenkaku', which imitated France's Effer Tower. The Tsuutenkaku appeared in the show was it's original, which was removed for gathering iron in the WWII. The Osakan symbol tower, Tsuutenkaku which you can see nowadays is the 2nd one, which was rebuilt after the WWII. You can learn a brief Japanese modern history from this series (^_^).

There is one another main android character left, Karinka. I don't know Kurumi will continue for 13 or 26 [episodes], but according to what I felt so far, it will become 26. The long running series (the matter of comparison) nowadays. Anyways, it has been more and more stupid and fun. (CALCI)

Saw the opening episodes of this. Ho hum, another show with cute female androids. It's quite amusing, though the panty shots of the female scientist gave me a feeling of "deja vu".
I'd rate this as not bad, but not essential. If you are interested in recent Japanese history, in view of Calci's comments i t would be worthwhile to pay attetio to the background. (GC)
