Fantasy Novel

Notes There was a 13 episode sequel in 2000.

Synopsis The plot is a "coming of age" story about Jinto, who grew up after his planet got conquered by an overwhelming foe from outer space and Rafuru, the daughter of the leader of the conquerors.
Review "SnoM" continues on its deliberate pace. This sci-fi epic is based upon a Japanese sci-fi novel that won a prize for "best Japanese SF novel of the year" some time back and it is being treated almost reverently by Sunrise and Wowow. To a good extent, the story "feels" a lot like the Heinlein "C.O.A." novels from the 1950's and it even looks the part - the character design is very similar to the style of Henry Van Dongen, who was the mainstay of Astounding Science Fiction Magazine in the 1950's when Heinlein stories like "Citizen of the Galaxy" were published in ASF. At some point I will have to write a detailed summary of "SnoM", but it is unfolding so slowly that I am waiting to have more things "happen". Suffice to say that at this point Jinto is doing a poor job of protecting Rafuru ( it's more the other way around ) as they are "on the run" after the battleship in which they were assigned as very junior officers got ambushed by overwhelming forces and the two of them were sent away before the ( very well done ) space battle.

By the way, I highly recommend to YOU specially to check the Seikai no Monsho series. And I would like to know your opinion. The series has the atomosphere of Azimov's Foundation series and E.E. Smith's, the good old space opera with the cutest Japanese anime heroine (g). The music also is great because it was performed by Hattori Katsuhisa, a famous Japanese screen/pop/classic hit tune maker, and the music seemed to be recorded by an oversea orchestra. If you listen to the soundtrack without the visual, you will feel as if it was a 70's Hollywood's big budget SF movie.. Really great stuff. (CALCI )
