Fantasy Novel

Notes New show, by Pioneer, 2000. Pronounced as "Niea under 7".
13-part Pioneer (?) anime that was broadcast on the Wowow Japanese satellite.

Classification -
Synopsis Niea_7 is an odd sci-fi series about Mayuko, a poor girl trying to get by, make ends meet and go to school, who has an alien girl, "Niea" as a room mate.
(Dave Baranyi)
Review "Niea_7" was much different right from the beginning and appealed to me right off the bat. The whole style of the show appealed to me right away - unlike so many other sci-fi anime, there was no boring voice-over in the beginning to explain all the "little details" of the situation, instead the show unfolds things bit-by-bit through images and things said in-passing. The neatest thing about the show is how seamlessly the ordinary world of Mayuko has the sci-fi elements blended into it.
The pacing and look of the show reminds me a lot of "Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou", minus all the on-screen notes and voice-overs. It looks like the supporting characters will also be interesting - Mayuko's alien-obsessed wealthy classmate was a great addition. I'm really looking forward to seeing more episodes of "Niea_7" and I already sent off a plea to my friend to keep on taping it for me.

The series was done by some of the creative team who put out "Lain" and some of the character designs, as well as the CD cover design are reminiscent of "Lain". But the story and music from "NieA_7" are anything but similar to "Lain".
