Synopsis | An alien spacecraft- Orphan- lies at the bottom of the Pacific ocean; causing destruction through
earthquakes and sending out "Plates" which give birth to organic robots. The robots come in two varieties; the eccentrically
named "Grand Cher" and "Brain Powerd". The former are piloted by humans serving Orphan; the others - er- aren't.(G.Cowie) "Brain Powerd" was developed by the creator of the Gundam series as a "rebuttal" to "Shin Seki Evangelion". It is a story about ( at least ) two mysterious organizations that are battling to either save or destroy the Earth ( depending upon whose claims you believe ). Central to the show are giant "organic" mechas that are created not as machines but are "grown" from DNA-like accumulations of energy. The driving force of the show is the relationships between the characters on both sides of the battle. |
Review | The
characterisation in this series is quite good. But this is yet another series about young people playing at piloting giant robots. It's worth watching though. (GC) Well thought-out. (P.N.)
"Brain Powerd" is still one of my all time favorite series. The lack of exposition, the compounding mysteries and the bizarre personal relationships all fascinated me when I first watched it and continue to appeal to me. It's a good example of the sort of non-linear series that I enjoy. |
