Title (English) | Story of the Trapp Family Singers |
Title (Japanese) | torappu ikke monogatari | Advertising Fantasy Novel |
Notes | Pol. = "Rodzina Trapp#w" English name: "Trapp Family Story" From book by: Maria von Trapp A title in Fuji TV & Nippon Animation's World Masterpiece Theater (meisaku)TV anime series of adaptations of classic children's books. |
Classification | WMT |
Synopsis | Most of the series is set in Austria, where the family lived in quite luxurious circumstances (The father is a "Baron" and they all lived in a matching stately home). The action of the anime mostly comprises incidents with Maria and the children. Maria and the Count fall in love. In 1942 the family flees from the Nazis to New York. |
Review | The version shown on Polsat 2 was dubbed in Italian & Polish, but had the
original opening & closing credits, including the songs. The opening
song is the do-re-mi song. The story is based on an autobiographical book by Maria
Augusta Trapp, which inspired the famous "Sound of Music" movie and musicals. This is an interesting anime if seen with comprehensible dialogue, but as many episodes don't seem to be from Maria's book, and most scenes are fairly static and "talky", it's impossible to follow if dubbed into a language one doesn't understand. The animation style is quirky rather than impressive. It seems that the anime follows the book rather than the musicals, but has been scripted to make it more child-centered than the book. The anime, like the musicals, ends with the flight from Austria, which occurs in the first few chapters of the book. I enjoyed re-watching this in the German dub which I could follow quite well. Anime journalists and WMT (World Masterpiece Theater) anime completists will probably want to check it out. Maria von Trapp (Baron's daughter); Baroness von Trapp; Baroness & nasty maid |
