Number of episodes: 350+
Creator: Momoko Sakura. See 1st series for more info.
|Synopsis||Series about a Japanese elementary school girl and her daily life. Maruko lives with her parents and older sister and grandfather in a typical one-story house in an average suburb.|
|Review||Anime about elementary school girls is not unusual, but this is more astringent than most. Unlike most small anime heroines, Maruko is no nicer than average. In fact she's rather a brat, of the kind who lie on the floor and kick and scream when they don't get what they want. The family life, including Maruko's often sly activities, is very well observed. Frequently Maruko is trying to wheedle something out of her parents or fighting with her (rather nicer) older sister. There are some interesting child characters, including the smart boy and the paranoid control-freak class rep.
It has a rather strange art style, but not as savagely caricatured as I remember from the earlier series.
Very funny. Recommeded.
