Fantasy Novel

Notes From shoujo manga by Matsushita Youko.
Classification shoujo
Synopsis A horror/comedy/mystery about bishounen shinigami investigators trying to find out the reasons for the violent deaths of a number of people. The perpetrator of the murders in the first episode is a Chinese actress who is a vampire and also died a couple of months before.
Review "Yami no Matsuei" - Prime time yaoi with a "bite" - this happens to be an action show about the dead and near dead, with lots of blood, gore and repressed homoeroticism. You won't see this show soon on a Saturday morning cartoon slot.(Dave Baranyi)

I got to watch the first episode of this series last night and here are my thoughts on it...
Only in anime you say? I just watched the first episode of the new Wowow anime "Yami no Matsuei"/"Descendent of Darkness". What an odd concept - a horror/comedy/mystery about bishounen shinigami investigators trying to find out the reasons for the violent deaths of a number of people. The perpetrator of the murders in the first episode is a Chinese actress who is a vampire and also died a couple of months before. Add to this a talking flying chicken sidekick/advisor and you have something that is sort of like CLAMP on bad drugs working in conjunction with Rumiko Takahashi.
But don't get me wrong - the first episode was fast-paced, funny and entertaining - sort of a cross between "Vampire Miyu TV", "Saiyuuki" and "Miami Guns". The only downside was the ending theme by the group "Hong Kong Knife" - the next time I watch an episode I'll hit the "mute" button so that I can examine the animation without shuddering at the song.

The fall new TV anime season has started. The first one of the new season was WOWOW's TV anime series, Yami no Matsuei. (Decendant of Darkness).
Yami no Matsuei was based on the same titled popular shojo manga by Matsushita Youko serially published by bi-weekly Hana to Yume (Hakusensha).
The story was set in the 'after death' world, where there was a capital which judges the dead people's activity in the living days called Jyuu Oh Cho (Ten King Agency). Among them, Emma Cho Shokan Ka (Summoning Department of the King Yama Agency) was the department where our hero death gods were working for... The building of Jyuu Oh Cho looks the same like the Diet building of Japan. (^_^; Tsuzuki Akito and Kurosaki Hisoka were the death god agents to inspect the affair about the death and dead people. The public servants of the world after death.
Very unique concept and the charms of yaoi heros make you impressed. This is fun to follow on. Overall impression of the first episode was B+. Enjoyable. (CALCI )

Credits The director of the animation was Tokita Hiroko, script was by Amiya Masaharu. Picture Paint Supervisor (sakuga kantoku) was Nakayama Yumi, production by J.C. Staff.
