Title (English) | Jeannie with the Light Brown hair #1 |
Title (Japanese) | Kinpatsu no jeanie | Advertising Fantasy Novel |
Notes | Jeanie the Blonde or Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair From a novel by Ishinomori Shiro, itself based on the song "I Dream of Jeannie" by Stephen Foster. |
Classification | - |
Synopsis | Civil war drama, in which Jeannie's fiance, Robert, is an officer in one of the combatant armies. Meanwhile she is the object of attention from a quite different man, Mark, who turns out to be her lost elder brother. |
Review | A quite grim and dramatic Civil War drama, with an adult heroine, totally different from the later (1992) TV series. The animation is quite rough and the story seems to jump a lot from one episode to another. Besides Jeannie and her parents, who live in a mansion, other characters include a num who is looking after some children. Their lives are all disrupted by war and sudden death. The story is often crudely melodramatic, with characters falling off high cliffs, and soldiers being ordered to shoot civilians. |
