Synopsis Ultra- girly Ran Kotobuki wants to have fun with her girlfriends. She also protects the people of Shibuya from undesirables, purse snatchers and pushy guys. But she does not want to be a police officer like her parents and brother.
Review "GALS" is one of the "hot" new TV Tokyo shows and TV Tokyo is advertising it like crazy on their web site. Since I was late asking about this show, the first episode I received was episode 5, which I felt might put me on a bit of a disadvantage, but it doesn't seem to be so.
"GALS" is a very deliberately "cool" show about three high school girlfriends. The music, animation style, jokes, plots and everything are very deliberately "cool". But nothing in the show really "grabbed" me. To an extent I was turned off by the character designs - the heads are too big for the bodies, which makes the large eyes even more noticeable than usual. Then there is the matter of the characters, who are stereotypical high school girl friends. The show just screams "stereotypical shoujo" and there was nothing in this episode to convince me otherwise. I've already asked my friend not to bother taping more episodes. (Dave Baranyi)
