Synopsis Swords & Sorcery character series.
Review The anime is by Xebec, and the character designs look a lot like a cross between "Gatekeepers" and "Angel Links". ( Although no character's chest extends across several counties as in "Angel Links". ) The opening theme song is a unremarkable female vocal, but the ending theme is an acceptable soft samba vocal. (Although I won't rush out to get the soundtrack.) The general level of animation is okay, but nothing unique.
The first episode is pretty slow - the four main characters, a girl and a guy fighter and a girl and a guy sorcerer, wander through a generic forest. The girl and guy fighters squabble with each other and the girl and guy sorcerers act shy with each other. Then the girl fighter goes off after a large land based lobster ( to try to catch it for supper ) and she gets trapped by hundreds of the land lobsters along with a giant water based lobster. Then the other three show up and end up eating plenty of lobster. ( One aside - earlier, the guy fighter attacked and killed a wolf-like thing for supper. But I've always been under the impression that predators make lousy meals. )
So, all-in-all, if you like "Tales of Eternia" the game, or you like generic Sword & Sorcery anime with pleasantly drawn characters and some level of humor, you might like this anime. I'll watch a couple more episodes to see which way the show goes, but for now I'm not holding my breath.

http://www.wowow.co.jp/drama_anime/index.html This is a surprisingly enjoyable bit of Sword & Sorcery "fluff", particularly considering that not a lot happens in each episode. It's based upon a video game, but the main emphasis in the anime series is to let the characters interact with each other in mainly humorous situations. Like most Xebec shows, the character designs are all quite attractive, the general animation colors are bright, and the girls spend a lot of time being underdressed. This show also has my other favorite current anime ending themes - "I'd Love You To Touch Me", by Masami Okui. Rating : B (Dave Baranyi)

Lightweight but pleasant S&S fantasy series. In the episode I saw, two of the more powerful female characters compete in a round-the- islands all female swim race (cue swimsuits). They are distracted by having to fight a monster.
It looks like the characterisation could be interesting. (GC)
