Synopsis | Nine animals, including a rabbit, squirrel, bear and penguin (Usagi, Risu, Kuma and Penguin, hence the title) form a rescue service, rather like Thunderbirds but with red jeeps. They are based in a castle and are commanded by a lion. |
Review | The Saban US edition, dubbed into German, does not look at all like Japanese animation, but it is, even though it looks like a typical American cartoon of the 1970's. All the animals have a "U" on their t-shirts, and the scenario checks with the entry in the Anime Encyclopaedia. It's quite amusing for about 10 minutes but otherwise you'd have to be a small child or an anime journalist to want to see more. In the episode I saw the animals exit though individual hatches into their jeeps and across the castle drew-bridge, and then drive across country impeded by malign crows and bats (rather amusingly drawn) before effecting their rescue. |
