Synopsis
Review Ads for "Shaman King" have been appearing for a while and I wasn't encouraged by them because I assumed that this show would just be another shounen "magic boy" show. But the first scene disabused me of that idea. A bulbous-headed nerd kid called Mantai happens to wander up to a hilltop cemetery and witnesses another kid who is happily surrounded by ghosts. Mantai attempts to convince his school mates of the reality of this the next day, but of course no one believes him. To make things worse, the kid that Mantai saw joins the class that day.
Mantai consequently gets beaten up by a gang of toughs that he stumbles upon, and gets taken in as a "friend" by the shaman king. We then see the main ghost of the shaman king, a samurai. From there this weird show only gets weirder and funnier as it goes along and gets populated by a number of classic anime stereotypes, including a bad kid with slicked hair that sticks out in front of his face about a half a meter. This appears to be a show worth keeping an eye on.
