Synopsis A look at the lives of five or so high school girls and their equally dysfunctional teachers.
Review Azumanga Daioh : A great match to "Atashi'n-chi" with similar "slice-of-life" situations but done from the point of view of the interactions of the five main high school girls with each other, rather than with their families. (And it has my favorite sound track and theme songs of the currently running shows.) Many times it gives the feeling of later Fellini films. - Rating A
(Dave Baranyi)

From the moment the big-eyed schoolgirls bounce across the screen in the opening credits to a catchy opening theme, one has the feeling that this is going to be a lot of fun, and it is! The character designs look slightly old-fashioned, doubtless deliberately so, for there is only innocent fun here - no violence, angst-ridden Adult Relationships or jokes so risque one daren't repeat them in sight of the Moral Majority - just brilliantly observed comedy and a collection of amusingly depicted characters.
One of the characters is a child genius while another, nicknamed "Osaka" because she comes from that city, is a bit slow and dim. Another girl is hyper-enthusiastic. And the teachers make mistakes, squabble with each other and get drunk after work.
There isn't an ongoing story, just a series of short sketches. The episodes I saw were in conventional 25-minute lengths.
A great series, well worth seeking out!
