Synopsis | Self-contained episodes inspired by the "Ghost in the Shell" manga and movie. |
Review | I saw episodes 1 & 2, which are both self-contained. Episode 2, in which the missing developer of a robot multi-legged tank gets control of it and runs amok, is more satisfying than episode 1. Episode 1 is a typical "who is really doing what?" episode in which a hostage situation and shoot-out leads to uncovering of treachery at a high level. Compared to earlier incarnations, Motoko Kusanagi's character design has been somewhat changed, as have those of some other characters. The talkative small "Tachikoma" multi-legged tanks appear. They also have Kusanagi wandering around somewhat gratuituously with half her kit off. The short self-contained episodes are something of an improvement plot-wise over the movie. The TV episodes are very well written and well animated. All in all, an excellent series which cyborg fans and those who liked the manga and movie will want to see and probably collect. |
