| Synopsis | >The mild and quietly spoken Keaton is a lecturer, and also an investigator for Lloyds of London, the insurance group. Keaton is of mixed British and Japanese descent, and lives in England. Keaton used to be in the SAS and was a survival instructor. |
| Review | In view of the British setting, I was amused by the lengthy planted conversation which tells Japanese viewers what "Lloyds" is. Each of the first two episodes is a separate investigation, the first in Greece involving ex-mercenaries, the second in Germany involving terrorist suspects. In the latter he shows a group of bounty hunters how a real pro. operates. Various heavies are disagreeably surprised to find that Keaton used to be in the SAS and was a survival instructor! Keaton solves his cases without resorting to lethal violence. What a cool guy! (GC)
Master Keaton: this slice of life series was on TV Tokyo a year or so ago and is now being re-broadcast on the Kids Station in Japan. The story, from the creator of Yawara, is very different as far as anime goes there is no sci-fi or magic, just a not-quite ordinary guy who is a semi-successful private investigator who would rather be a field archaeologist. The series is set mainly in Europe and captures the flavor of Europe surprisingly well. Rating a very laid back show that is more like a live action TV series than an anime. (Dave Baranyi) Now I'm watching the KidsStation repeats and enjoying this unique anime from the creator of "Yawara". Unlike all the other anime I have watched, "Master Keaton" doesn't have any Sci-Fi or Fantasy elements. Instead it's about a history professor who moonlights as an insurance investigator for Lloyds of London. Also, unlike most anime, it's set in all sorts of European locations - the Greek Isles, Northern Italy, Germany, Poland, Paris and so on. (Dave Baranyi) |
