Synopsis
Review The original Latin meaning of the phrase, "reductio ad absurdum", meaning reducing something down to absurdity seems to be the mission statement of the new "cute girls doing stupid things" series, "Bottle Fairy". Also, to a good extent, the origin of the term yaoi, coming from the concept of "no plot, no story" also applies in the sense that "Bottle Fairy" seems to be yaoi for guys. Guys, that is, who like Cute with a definite capital "C" and don't want anything to get in the way of that.

What we have here is 10 or so minutes of four tiny fairy girls who do a good imitation of an improv version of Teletubbies. There is no story, plot, characterization, explanation or anything. There is less structure than in 4-panel manga-derived shows such as "Azumanga Daioh". The oddest thing about this is that this isn't an early morning pre-schooler's show, but half of a late night anime time slot shared with "Battle Programmer Shirase".

So is "Bottle Fairy" simply a crass means to advertise an upcoming game, some perverse post-modern incarnation of "performance art", or just an indication of how little regard anime producers have for their audiences? You know, I've got to think that if "Bottle Fairy" is any indication of the tastes of some non-trivial percentage of the Japanese male population aged teens to 20's, it's no wonder that the number of "Christmas Cakes" keeps on increasing amongst Japanese girls.
