Synopsis | The Japanese self-defence force ship Mirai is on an exercise, and sailing alone to make a rendez-vous with US navy ships, when strange meteorological conditions occur, and the crew find that communications have been cut off,
although their gear seems still to be working. Then they sight an old-style battleship bearing down on them, and then several ships. Inevitably they have a naval history otaku on board, and he recognises the formation as Japanese ships of 60 years ago, steaming towards the Battle of Midway! On board the Mirai are a civilian reporter, various officers who it seems will emerge as distinct characters, and the hesitant commander. As they realise their predicament they abandon their course to the modern Pearl Harbour, Hawaii and have to decide what they will do. Will they intervene in history or stand aside as their fellow-Japanese die? The Mirai, though small, has enough firepower to take on 1940's vessels and aircraft and win. [GC] |
Review | This looks like a major series, with a controversial subject, excellent ship graphics, potentially exciting storyline and well depicted characters. It will also be of interest to WW2 naval buffs. I found it fascinating, and the appearance of the long-lost squadron of ships sunk 60 years ago strangely moving. 2 subbed episodes seen. Recommended.
