Fantasy Novel

Notes A.k.a. "Magical Girl Team Alice". 9 minute episodes.
The 11 year old heroine is suddely transferred to a magical world of witches.
Classification shoujo
Synopsis Alice is an 11 year old girl who believes in magic. She lives with her mother; it seems that her father has left them. While misbehaving at school she experiences a couple of strange fugues, and then when trying to grab her magic book back from two boys she falls from the school roof and then before their horrified gaze vanishes completely.

She finds herself in what she rapidly recognises as a forest on a magical world and tries to lure a small animal with her school snack. Then she finds herself under attack - and in the next scene she has been imprisoned by a couple of rather cross little witches who accuse her of mucking up the hunt for a "sprite" and of interfering with their training.

Naturally Alice doesn't understand anything. By the end of episode 2 Alice has got out, had a go at flying a broom, and caused a lot of major trouble. She has learned that the world is ruled by a cabal of senior witches who rely on captured "sprites" for their power - something they don't want the citizenry to know.

Alice believes that magic should be used to make people happy, but the senior witches take a different view.

Review If you're wondering where the name "Tweeny Witches" comes from, it's called that on the official Japanese website. It's broadcast by NHK, which generally is a positive sign of quality.

A magical-girl anime in which the heroine is a brat, the character designs are unusual, the story zips along briskly , and the dialog crackles with wit. Just looking at the little witches with their pointy hats, sticking-out hair and cross expressions makes me chuckle. I think this one is going to be a hit. [GC]
