Synopsis Some bad guys with supernatural powers are very upset when somebody destroys their HQ. They re-animate a giant stone carving and start trashing Japan with it. The Japanese authorities can't do much as they have ceded control of the JSDF to the UN. So they call in an obsessive-looking guy with glasses (Dr. Mikogami) who says that his organisation has been waiting for just such an eventuality.
So he and his son and daughter start up their gear (secret base, giant carrier, giant robots), while the authorities evacuate a coastal area called "Arcadia" which is inhabited by dropouts and dissidents, and designated as the area where the battle will take place.

The Mikogami son, not insignficantly named "Yamato", takes on the golem and, despite being distracted by some people still in the area, lures the golem into the sea and trashes it. Unfortunately he also vapes the ship full of refugees. At this point, while general dismay reigns, a rather attractive supernatural being materialises in mid air - the eponymous Rouran - and announces that she is going to take revenge. [GC]

Review After seeing 1 episode I'm not sure what to make of this. It's clearly not anything deep, but if you like this sort of team/robot show it could be amusing. If you look at what happens with the collateral damage in the 1st episode, I wonder if this is an anti-American show. No, of course not. Couldn't be.

I really liked the bit where the attractively armoured Rouran (see main pic.) appears in mid air and says "My name is Rouran and I'm going to destroy you". Hopefully in later episodes we find out who some of the mysterious characters in #1 are.

(Later) I've just discovered that sometime in 2003 I saw some of Rouran at an anime con and a week or so later wrote this:
"I can remember worryingly little about this except that it was bad. Not ironic, or a parody, just badly made and scripted. Avoid." Robot picture here. [GC]
