Synopsis | Momo, the heroine, is quite dark-skinned because, a keen swimmer, she has been in the sun a lot. She has heard that a boy she likes doesn't like dark-skinned girls, so she is worried about her appearance and anxious to lose the tan. Sae, who has attached herself to Momo as her friend, does nothing to ease Momo's insecurity, and copies any fashion item that Momo adopts and chases after the same boys. |
Review | A series that seems to be attracting some attention as one of th few shoujo anime in the new season. "Peach Girl" is quite dramatic and not without interest. However the yo-yo nature of the plot as Momo's romance veers between progress and crisis, more than once in each episode, rapidly becomes exasperating. Momo is clearly an attractive girl (attractive enough to be propositioned by an elderly pervert on her way to school), but seems naive and lacking in self-confidence. She seems to have no female friends at school other than the duplicious Sae, who seems intent on proving that female friendship comes second to relations with men. Sae seems able to thorougly manipulate Momo. Momo is imvolved with two boys, one being the boy she likes, and the other the sort who won't take No for an answer. Unless this improves I don't think I could put up with the irritating rapid plot mood swings for mch longer (2 episodes seen). |
