Fantasy Novel

Notes Based on a series of shounen novels of same title. Reportedly there is also a manga published in "Margaret" magazine.

Synopsis 16-year old Sakurano Tazusa is a Japanese figure ice-skater who, while still a schoolgirl, has reached the higher levels of international competition. She has a high opinion of her looks, hence the title of the first episode (The $10 billion beauty). While executing her figure skating routine in the Women's Figure Skating Grand Prix, in Canada, she attempts a difficult jump, apparently against the advice of her coach. She stumbles and lands badly, falls heavily on her back and knocks herself out.

At the same time that this is going on, in the same city, a Canadian youth by the name of Pete Pumps is performing an air stunt in a light aircraft when he loses control, his plane crashes heavily and he dies. Tazuka regains consciousness and gets some stick from an unsympathetic Japanese sports official for crashing out of the competition.

Some while later, Tazusa starts to hear strange voices and is forced to realise that a Canadian ghost now resides in her body. After futile attempts to get rid of Pete, Tazusa decides to get accustomed to his presence and in the meantime, improve on her techniques in order to get selected for the Olympics, despite the Canadian fiasco.

Review The first episode opens with a short skating sequence and all-too-fleeting shots of the attractive Tazusa in her skating costume. Overall, though, this seems to be a comedy/ romance/ supernatural show rather than a pure sports anime.

Tazusa is a fairly abrasive character, rude to almost everybody including the Press, whose constant attention she detests. She still attends high school, where she seems mostly to be treated as an ordinary student rather than a celebrity. Most of the comedy is generated in the scenes where she is being haunted by Pete Pumps.

Overall this series rates as "average".
