Fantasy Novel

Notes OVA series, 1994
US: Viz Video (2 ep. Tapes, 60 mins ea., also DVD)
Classification -
Synopsis Key is created by a scientist who wants to use his skill in robotics to create peace and love in the world. He dies, and poor Key is left unable even to smile. He leaves a message behind, that suggests that Key could become a real human if she could win the love of 30,000 people.
There are several strands to the story: Key's inept efforts at life in the big city, living with Sakura who befriends her, the activities of a ruthless group led by Ajo, who want to use robotics for military purposes, and the activities of the religious cult led by Prince Snake-Eye, also interested in Key. Key herself turns out to have some strange powers.
Review Employs fairly realistic characterisations and action for the most part. Can be quite exciting. Key's situation is quite poignant, but the series seems to be taking an age to reach her goal. Poignant or portentous? Worth watching, though.
