Title (English) | Nadia - the Movie |
Title (Japanese) | Fushigi no Umi no Nadia | Advertising Fantasy Novel |
Notes | Full title = "Fushigi no Umi no Nadia The Movie Fuzzy no Himitsu". Movie, 1993, 90 mins. Sequel to TV series, itself inspired by Jules Verne. |
Classification | - |
Synopsis | Set at around the beginning of the 20th century. An older Nadia and Jean confront a scheme by a fresh lot of bad guys to provoke a world war and take over the world, using Atlantis technology. Nadia works in London, as the office-girl at a newspaper, while Jean is in France, with the daughter of a missing scientist as his companion. |
Review | Before viewing the movie (in an Italian version) I had read a review that said it wasn't much good. (If you're a persistent type, you could find this review on the Web.) The relationship between the older Nadia ( now about 17) and Jean is quite well depicted. Otherwise, it's inferior stuff. There are a lot of flashbacks to the TV series. The new story is thin and implausible stuff, being a re-run of the one where bad guys with a high-tech fortress try to take over the world and are infiltrated by a few plucky intruders... Well you know that script. In several places the sea is shown flat as a millpond, presumably because the animators couldn't be bothered to animate waves. It would be a greta pity if anyone were to watch this movie and be deterred from seeking out the TV series, which is far better. |
