Fantasy Novel

Notes "KOR - And So the Summer Began". Based on a novella by the originator of the manga series. This is a sequel to the first movie sequel. Movie commercially available in USA.
Classification -
Synopsis The adult Kyosuke, now at college, suffers a road accident and his spirit is thrown three years into the future. Materially, he disappears while working as a photographer in Bosnia, much to the distress of his girlfriend Ayukawa Madoka. In spirit, he runs into the adult Hikaru Hiyama, now an attractive and sophisticated young woman...
Review Kyosuke & Hikaru
The first thing to note is that you are advised not to watch this unless you have watched the first KOR movie, and you should not watch the first movie unless you have watched several of the OVAs, so that you know who these people are and why they behave the way they do!
If you have, and are a fan of KOR, then read on.
I have only seen the Italian TV version of this movie, so this review is not definitive. However the Web consensus of opinion is that IF you are a KOR fan, you'll find that the 2nd movie is well worth watching. I was a bit confused by the story, and felt that the magical sequences were not the best parts. (In KOR movie #1,the hero's magical powers are not mentioned at all.) Like the first movie, the second is more serious in tone than the OVAs & TV episodes.
I can say, however, that a different character designer has been employed, and the animation is more sophisticated than before. The character designs are substantially changed and less cartoon-ish, with Kyosuke looking more mature, and, at last, an adult Madoka who really does look gorgeous. Hikaru is scarcely recognisable.
The adult friendship between the two young women is very skillfully depicted, and this is one of the strengths of the movie.
Recommended, then for those who have remained fans of this series, though one wonders how many such remain.
