Synopsis | Another tale about a schoolgirl heroine who transforms into a character with super powers. Maron can become Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, who destroys demonically-posessed objects after her fairy, Fin, issues challenges for the authorities to try and stop Jeanne from stealing them. Jeanne is a reincarnation of Joan of Arc, and speaks French. She is accompanied by Fin, a small, winged fairy, who can be seen hanging out of Maron's school bag. Maron's best friend Miyako does not know that she is also Jeanne, and is one of those most eager to capture Jeanne. |
Review | This is quite a lot of fun. Maron/Jeanne has some opposition in the form of annoying boy Chiaki who is always flirting and making innuendo-laden advances to Maron, who doesn't like him, and Miyako, who does. Chiaki, as one can see from the cast list, is also the magical character Kaitou Sindbad, who seems to be working for the forces of darkness, and is Jeanne's rival as a demon-destroyer. The episodes mostly follow the same format of daily life, challenge, transfromation action, demon disposal, coda, but have enough variation to keep one's interest. And Jeanne is distinctly cuter than Maron. Jeanne is blonde, while Maron has brown hair. Fin has lime-green hair. At episode 28, the series has a significant makeover. There is a new opening credit animation, and Jeanne gets a new and beautiful transformation sequence. Jeanne gets a slightly different costume (with white shorts under her short skirt), new tools for disposing of demons, and a new type of demonic adversaries. There are at least two new characters. |
