Synopsis Nello, a young boy living in 19th century Belgium, aspires to be a painter as great as Rubens. He lives with his grandfather, who has a milk round, and their lives become even harder when his grandfather falls ill. Nello takes in a stray dog, Patraasche, which pulls his milk cart. Nello also makes friends with Alois, a girl from a rich landlord family. Nello works at his art but gets little encouragement from anyone asides from Alois and a dealer in art supplies.

Review Beautifully animated and sensitively told story of love in adversity. Be warned though that if you like your anime cheerful you should look elswehere.
