Classification -
Synopsis Future space-opera. The Empire side have Teutonic names, aristocratic titles and elaborate uniforms, the Alliance has democratic trappings. The principal characters, both space battle strategists, are Reinhardt von Lohengramm, a young, arrogant, ambitious noble, and on th other side Lieutenant Yang Wenli, a much more laid-back character who was once a historian.
Review Impressive series, with human drama, a large cast of supporting characters, and huge slow-moving space battles set to classical music. The massive scale and the measured pace of the series leave plenty of time for lessons on space battle strategy. The general mood of the series is rather downbeat, even tragic.
Some of the designs look rather old-fashioned and uninspired, but the overall concept and execution of the series is brilliant.
Recommended (though it may not be fast and flashy enough for today's young fans).
Credits Dir: Noburo Ishiguro, Akio Sakai, Akihiko Nishimura, Kenichi Imaizumi.
