Synopsis | |
Review | "Ningyo Soushi" ( aka "Meitantei Ningyo" ), has also been running mini-arcs since its beginning. I'm not as enthusiastic about "Ningyo Soushi" as I am "One Piece", however, because the mysteries aren't that difficult to figure out and the secondary characters aren't too interesting ( as compared to, for example, "Meitantei Conan" ). But there is one redeeming feature about this show that keeps me watching, and that is the formal "puppet play" that Sakon does with Ukon during the denouement of each story line. Throughout most of each show Ukon is illustrated as if he were "human" and Sakon's rather "odd" behavior towards Ukon emphasizes this. But when Sakon is ready for the crucial moment, Ukon is then illustrated as a real puppet, with wooden puppet features and the whole background is done in an other worldly way that makes it seem that we are watching a puppet show in Hell. I find it really effective and I only wish that more of the show were done in this manner. (Dave Baranyi) |
