Classification -
Synopsis A shounen adventure/romance about a middle school girl who can travel back and forth through time to medieval Japan where she goes on a series of adventures and gets caught up in a romantic triangle with a half demon-dog, half human boy and long dead mika who might be an earlier incarnation of herself. (DB)
Review "Inuyasha" - Rumiko Takahashi's time travelling school girl Mika and dog/boy demon hit the small screen flying, with lots of action, blood and gore.

I finally got to see episode 1 of "Inu Yasha" this evening. Actually, I shouldn't sound like I'm complaining - after all, it was a pretty good job by my friend in Kawanishi-shi to get this show taped a week ago and get it to me in the mail, along with other tapes, in less than a week.
Having been disappointed by many of the other new Fall anime that I've seen in the last couple of weeks, I didn't know quite what to expect from "Inu Yasha", particularly since I haven't read the manga. But I'm always ready to give anything from Takahashi a try, and there has been so much hype for "Inu Yasha", along with a really intriguing TV ad campaign for the show, that I ended up anticipating this series a lot.
Well, based upon the first episode, I wasn't at all disappointed. The show started out with a bang, and kept running all the way through. I couldn't believe that it was over so quickly. But more than just being fast-paced, the episode had all sorts of well done action and suspense. Add to this OAV/movie quality animation and "Inu Yasha" appears to be the show to watch this Fall. And what a line up for Fuji TV too - with "Meitantei Conan" coming right after it.
The music was fine, if not memorable. I read a few other early viewers questioning the appropriateness of the main theme, but I found nothing particularly wrong with it. The voice acting was also good and clear. But now that I found out by doing some web searching that Inu Yasha's seiyuu is the seiyuu who also does Kudo Shiniichi for "Meitantei Conan", I'll undoubtedly be smiling whenever I hear Inu Yasha's voice. ( If Ran ever finds out for certain that Shiniichi has been Conan all along and didn't tell her, she'll stick an arrow into Shiniichi too. (L) )
But one of the problems of watching so much ( too much ? ) anime is that little, otherwise unconnected things keep on sticking out as I watch. In the case of "Inu Yasha", it was the scene where Kagome finds Inu Yasha and plays with his ears a bit. It immediately brought to mind the ear scene in "FLCL" episode 3. (L)
In any event, unless something really goes really wrong along the way, "Inu Yasha" will be in my "A" list this Fall for anime.
This Takahashi series is translating very well to TV, just don't expect a 100% direct conversion from the manga (and you shouldn't anyway because print and film are fundamentally different media). The emphasis is on characterization in this series, but this never gets in the way of slam-bang action and hordes of baroque monsters and dastardly enemies. At the same time, this is also a story of star-crossed lovers, fate and revenge. Rating: one of the most consistently exciting shows on today.

I've seen the first episode of Takahashi Rumiko's Inu Yasha yesterday.. Hmm how can I say it.. The art quality was good. CG was beautiful. Presentation was appropriate. Budget was high. No mentioning of voice cast (Yamaguchi Kappei (otoko Ranma) for Inuyasha, Hidaka Noriko (Tendo Akane) for Kagome... But it wasn't fun (sigh).
The opening theme song by V6 (one of the popular all male idol group) was apparantly mismatched. The producer wanted this series as 'a major' show for a broader audience, and this allowed us anime fans less satisfaction. At least I could not find any enthusiasm nor tension which the original stuff had. And probably, Takahashi Rumiko has become out dated.. It is sad to admit that Takahashi has become a person of the past, but at least I can't fully enjoy this stuff myself. Rating was A-.
(CALC)I As far as TV series go, I can hardly say that TV Inuyasha was very successful. (much better than avarage, though). Furthermore I am not a great fan of Takahashi Rumiko's original Inuyasha. I love Urusei Yatsura or Ranma much more. (CALCI )

I've seen episodes 1,2, 5, 6. It's better than average but I felt that it was a bit old-fashioned in style - it's just like watching "Fire Tripper" or some of the other Takahashi based anime that were made some years ago. I'm not convinced that this is really an improvement on the original manga. (GC).
