Synopsis The story is about a young male teacher who is desperate enough about getting his first job as a teacher that he disguises himself as a female teacher in order to get a job at a nearby private school where the woman principal hates men.
Review "I, My, Me, Strawberry Eggs" easily wins the competition for the goofiest title of the year. And it is also in the running for goofiest premise too. The show starts out with a manic, wizened old lady called Ruru running from door-to-door in her boarding house, shooting at her lodgers to get them to pay their rent. One lodger doesn't have any money and wants to get a job at the nearby high school, but the lady principal there only hires women teachers. ( She feels that women teachers give a better "experience" for the girls in her school. ) So old "Baba" comes up with the scheme to get the lodger disguised as a woman to get a job at the school. So next day the very tall and statuesque "Miss Hibiki" applies for a job at the school. The principal is suspicious, but Hibiki is able to "motivate" a totally clumsy girl to be able to run 50 meters without falling, and is given the job.
The series started out like it would be a sex farce, with lots of panty and bra fan-service. But it soon settled down as a typical high school series, with Hibiki, the cross dressing teacher, trying to encourage her/his students to do well, and the students responding to her/his sincerity. At the same time, a romantic entanglement occurred between Hibiki, one of her/his girl students and another student couple. Hibiki was faced with the problem that a cute student was interested in "her", but not "him". Hibiki also had the problem that the student was only 14 years old.
"Strawberry Eggs", being a Wowow comedy, of course contains plenty of panty shots and I predict will also have equivalent amounts of skin for additional fan service. The jokes and circumstances are all predictable but fun. The clumsy girl, of course, is rather confused about her new teacher.
I couldn't help but keep on comparing "I, My, Me" to another relatively recent "young teacher" series - "GTO", aka, "Great Teacher Onizuka". And while comparing, I also couldn't help but feel that "I, My, Me" was a much weaker series. While I found the characters of "GTO" to be funny, compelling and generally appealing, I found that I just didn't care at all about the characters in "I, My, Me". Also, the plot driver of "I, My, Me" was too far-fetched for my tastes there was no good reason for Hibiki to want to work so badly at that particular school. The plot would have been acceptable if the series were only a sex farce, but once it started to try to be "serious", the basic premise became too outlandish to believe.
I do have to hand it to the creators of the show, however, that they avoided the temptation to have some sort of "happy ending" to the series. But overall, I found the series to be ordinary at best, and not something that I would go out of my way to spend money on.

I saw the second and third episodes and thought that this anime wasn't bad, though I doubt if I would go and spend money on DVDs. There is a fair amount of farce and fan service, but also some indications that the series may have something to say about male/female roles.
I was intrigued by the gyn class episode in which "Miss Hibiki" gets the girls to change their confining pleated skirts for gym knickers or "bloomers" as they are called in the subtitles. Apparently Japanese girls do have to wear these things and they do find the leg-show rather embarrassing. (I wonder why they don't wear shorts?)
