Synopsis | Eleven- year old Julie Braun, from the Southern Tyrol of Austria, is orphaned when her parents are killed by Italian soldiers. She goes to live with her relatives, the Clementes, in Vienna. |
Review | The sound-track includes music by Schubert and Strauss, and the animation includes some touristy live-action footage of monuments and countryside. I thought this production had an anime-by-numbers feel about it: Julie herself has a cute pet squirrel - a common feature in anime made around this time. There are a couple of annoying boys, one of them being rich and good-looking, and various friendly or sourpuss schoolgirls, and a musical schoolmaster. One has the feeling that this is not going to contain any surprises. The animation art looks rather low-budget and dated. |
