Synopsis | The
kingdom of Palse is invaded and the army betrayed by
one of its own officers. The King is captured and the only
hope seems to lie with young prince Arislan, who is led
away by Daryoon, a demoted division commander. To
find help he seeks out an old friend and former Imperial
Secretary, Nalsus, now an artist recluse. The invading
army lays siege to Palse's capital. Later joining the struggle are Pharangese, a female warrior sent by a temple, and Gieve, a wandering minstrel rogue who courts the Queen's favour before the capital is overrun. |
Review | HEROIC LEGEND OF ARISLAN Part I. (Manga Video), 60 mins, cert PG, £10.99 Epic fantasy adventure. I saw a subtitled version of this at the A.D. 3 Con. It has decent animation, well developed characters, and an interesting plot. Recommended for epic fantasy fans. Women should like the hero, Prince Arislan. HEROIC LEGEND OF ARISLAN Part II, (Manga Video), 58 mins, cert PG, £10.99 Part II continues in the same likeable manner as part I. However, about 15 minutes into the second video one begins to suspect that there isn't going to be a resolution. A different team of scriptwriters introduce more characters instead of developing those from Part I, and Prince Arislan has doubts about his legitimacy. There follows a section in which the heroes are involved in a civil war with an untrustworthy Indian prince and his brother. The 'politically correct' will probably be upset by this characterisation! A slightly disappointing "middle episode"; two more are in production. HEROIC LEGEND OF ARISLAN 3 (Manga Video, 56 mins, cert PG, £11.99) Third in the heroic fantasy series; not as good as the first, and not a great deal happens, but interesting if you have seen the previous episodes. It was billed as "3&4" in the press release but there was only 1, 30min episode on the preview tape, and the box says "Part III". You could visit a shop & check it out if you're that curious. A fourth episode exists in Japan and should appear eventually. If you've not seen it, check the first volume; it's quite good, and as there are handsome heroes and not much violence it should also appeal to girls. |
