Synopsis On the worlds of the Joker star cluster, human pilots are paired with sentient androids (fatimas) to control giant robots known as 'mortar heads'. Dr Ballache, a famous fatima designer, is about to unveil his two latest creations, Clotho and Lachesis, at a ceremony where they will select their future partners from among the ranks of robot pilots. Because the fatimas are so beautiful, various nobles are also interested, including the local dictator, Uber.
Review Both anime and manga are regarded as minor classics by some. This is an anime in which style is as important, if not more important than the story. The designs are great, and the fatimas, androids for whom style has clearly overtaken function, look gorgeous. Huge machines clunk about, while the characters engage in elaborate manoevures of deception.
Both characters and machines have rather silly names which the Japanese crew probably thought were very amusing. Hence the principal hero is "Ladius Stropp", one of the robots is a "Devonshire" ( a county in the UK, you foreigners), and a menacing anti-gravity battleship is the "Air Dooley".
If you like the "shoujo" styles of anime, check this one out.
