Synopsis Fumi Manjoume and Akira Okudaria were close friends when they were young, but when Fumi moved away, they lost contact. Ten years later, they meet again as high school freshmen. Although they find that things between them have changed, they try to help each other through hard times, and maintaining the new lives they've built without growing apart. Fumi is miserable because her cousin recently got married. However she soon meets a tall and charming sempai at her new school.
Review I was drawn to the manga by the Aoi Hana anime, which didn't stand out at first, but which I grew to like more and more as I continued to follow it. The subject, girl-girl love among schoolgirls, is one that some will find intriguing. The characters all seemed as if drawn from life, and were never made to act out of character, as the story unfolded in a natural unforced way. In contrast to many other romance anime, there was no attempt to exaggerate or to contrive humorous situations.

While the lead character isn't particularly good-looking, her character - or her facial expressions - appear very cute. The manga (so far) covers two school years, the first year being dramatised in the anime. As the manga begins, Fumi is miserable because a covert sexual relationship with her older female cousin is suddenly broken off when the cousin marries. In the first year, Fumi becomes romantically involved with tall and popular sempai Yasuko Sugimoto. Soon Sugimoto, who is also in love with a male teacher, breaks off with Fumi, who soon realises that she is interested in her friend Akira in a more than platonic way. A school play acts as a sub-plot. The manga at various points spells out matters that are only hinted at in the anime. In the second school year, more characters are introduced and school drama clubs again act as a vehicle for sub-plots. Fumi's pursuit of Akira proceeds slowly.
Akira's brother appears weirdly obsessed with Akira at the beginning, but later he becomes the boyfriend of one of the drama club schoolgirls.

A first-rate manga and highly recommended.
